5 Things to Know Before Moving into a Dorm
Whether you’re ready or not for your next academic year at college, things you need to know before moving in can be pretty surprising as you didn’t expect that it would probably happen. But keep this in mind, moving on for your next chapter is always a daunting decision, where presumably you’re scared of being an adult, letting things go, etc. However, sometimes we need to take the risk, because life will never be fun if you’re just playing safe. You need to sacrifice for what’s best for your desire - whether that’s a dream job, and pursuing your talent. So here are the five things to know before moving into a dorm.
You’re Temporarily Separated From Your Family
This is very tough to consider, especially if you’re incredibly close with your family. So before actually moving into your dorm, make sure you send out your warmest hug and kisses. This will let them know that you’ll soon come home often and know that they’re welcome to visit. Or just tell them nicely. That will be even better.
You Have A Roommate
It’s an incredible experience if your new roommate is your new friend right ahead. But what if you’re not good at talking first? So try to make a very good impression once you’re entering the room with your roommate. That way, he/she/they get to say hi or start an approach first instead of you.
You Can’t Cook In Your Dorm
You’re staying in a building where there are other people aside from your roommate. So if cooking is allowed, and someday one of the rooms is burning, then it badly affects as well to the others, and the potential damage will be outrageous. Other stuff having burning potential is also not allowed, including cooking. So if you were planning to cook for several legal reasons, you better adapt immediately and think about other options. Two examples are sticking with canned foods and only bringing a microwave.
There are rules
Of course, but it’s important to remember that there are rules in the dormitory. There are also rules with your roommate, where both parties agree. So try to discuss with your roommate about rules to implement in your dorm as soon as possible. Remember, validate his/her/their thoughts as people have their unique preferences. If you can’t still agree with your roommate, then instead of saying no directly, how about suggesting a better way that both of you can agree with it. That way, he won’t get hurt from rejecting because you are just innovating his/her/their idea.
There are Quite Hours
Whether it’s a general rule from the dormitory or a rule that you and your roommate agreed with. There is always a time that you observe silence. Maybe because it’s study time, sleeping time, etc. So try to consider that there are quiet hours. That way, you consider and respect others who might be studying and sleeping already.
To Wrap-Up…
These five things are what you should expect in every dormitory. If you have any further questions, make sure you ask the right and relatable one. You can find some questions here, just in case it might help you along your way. Lastly, consider the five things mentioned, and by that, you’ll have no problem once you’ve finally lived in as you’ve adapted the rules already.
Nowhere to stay?
Probably the dorm slots are already occupied, and hard for you to find an alternative. It’s a painful experience. But luckily, there’s a new dormitory showed up called Casa Carmen dormitory. You can find its Facebook page here for more details and information.
